LA TOMASA ESTANCIA
A unique and historical place to enjoy the peace of nature
OUR STORY
The ranch tells the story of the Gibson family. The first owners of the land were Mansilla and Frías, soldiers from Rosas, who had received them as a prize in 1842. In 1862, Manuel Babio, a Spanish merchant, bought and surveyed a large area where he founded "La Tomasa", in memory of a daughter who died prematurely. In 1885, Babio sold the ranch to Thomas Gibson, with the condition of keeping the name.
Thomas, a Scottish engineer and painter in love with the Pampas plain, along with his brothers were pioneers in sheep breeding, and who in the 1850s imported the first Rommey Marsh from England.
The hull was built in 1893 of adobe, where to this day you can see the size of the walls, about 50 centimeters. This was restored in 2022 maintaining its original character.
We are the seventh generation that continues to live on the same land, honoring our ancestors and their history. Today we open our doors to share our gaucho customs, our respect and love for the Argentine countryside and everything it has to offer.
